Tonight I got home [late] to the following tableau:
[Sound of small feet running down the hall: poundpoundpoundpoundpound]
"Mommy's home!"
Isaac barreled into me, his hair still wet and smelling sweetly of shampoo. He grinned and began tickling my stomach.
"Ai-yi-yi-yi-yi!" I responded, as ritual demanded.
And then he announced (in the third person, as he is wont to do lately--too much SportsCenter with Daddy, perhaps?):
"Isaac missed Mommy."
[Sharp intake of breath].
I'm am so NOT surprised.

Wow. Third person or not, the fact that he voiced the feelings is stupendous. My 47 yr old NT sister (well, as NT as any of us really is, I suppose!) still has trouble voicing her feelings. Opinions are easy; feelings are hard.
Way to go Isaac. And what a lovely way to be greeted from work!
