Thanks for the link and Jordan, i think you are right on, as usual.
The emotional memory piece is so significant and LONG lasting with my ASD son (who you know!). Just in terms of "why?" I often think his overall heightened sensitivity is part of it as well. His sadness and fear are just so intense sometimes it's heartbreaking. On the flip side, though, his ability to find joy and humor sometimes amazes me, too.

Yes you are right as a society, we are very uncomfortable with negative emotions.
