SCENE: Bedtime, our house. Isaac, in his pyjamas, climbs into his parents' bed and snuggles under the covers.
Isaac: I want you to turn off that light.
[DADDY obliges and turns off the light.]
Isaac: I want you to turn off that light.
[DADDY turns off the remaining light]
DADDY: Okay big boy, let's say our goodnights.
Isaac: [Thinking about one of his favorite teachers] Goodnight, Tim. [Pauses, recalling particularly excellent episode of Thomas the Tank Engine in which Duncan learns a lesson when his whistle falls off and the headmaster is forced to play the organ at the junctions to alert any oncoming trains, thereby teaching Duncan compassion for his fellow engines] Goodnight, Headmaster. Goodnight, Headmaster's piano. Goodnight, Duncan. Goodnight, Duncan is mad. Goodnight, Duncan is very very mad. Goodnight, Duncan is happy. [Pauses again] Goodnight Isaac's school. Goodnight, Daddy's school. Goodnight, Mommy's school.
DADDY: Isaac, Mommy doesn't have a school--she has an office.
[Isaac considers this briefly]
Isaac: Goodnight, seeing someone else on the computer.
DADDY: Okay, big boy, time for bed.
Isaac: I want two more goodnights. [Pauses, remembering countless hours of fun spent riding in elevators all over town.] Goodnight, going up to two. Goodnight, going up to three. Goodnight, going up to four. Goodnight, going up to five...
DADDY: Okay, let's go. Say goodnight to Mommy.
Isaac: Goodnight Mommy.
[Isaac sweetly trundles off to bed followed by DADDY, whose turn it is to tuck him in. MOMMY slips into the office for a little furtive night-time blogging.]
THE END
AH, but *that's* a film I'd love to watch over and over! How sweet.

I'm loving the "followed by Daddy, whose turn it is to tuck him in..." Smart, very smart.
My son only agrees to daddy if mommy is not home. But let's face it, I don't have a life, I am never not home. Okay, almost never.
We have to work on this.
